Sniffer® Voice

Sniffer Voice

Sniffer® Voice is a separate application that installs on top of Sniffer® Portable 4.5+ or Sniffer® Distributed 4.1+, allowing you to now troubleshoot, monitor, and perform expert analysis on emerging Voice-over-Networks (VoNs). Sniffer® Voice enhances the quality of converged networks at every level and optimizes the management of voice, video, and data over a single network. Sniffer® Voice with it’s real-time VoIP expert analysis and decoding provides voice network personnel the solution they need to help make certain that their VoIP networks are delivering the ‘toll-quality’ voice level that their users demand. By tracking and suggesting solutions to the key factors that lead to voice quality degradation - such as packet delay, packet sequence problems, jitter, and packet loss - Sniffer® Voice arms the field service technician and VoIP network manager with the solutions they need to help ensure QoS on their packet voice networks.

  • Helps eliminate common VoIP network problems
  • Helps ensure "toll-quality" for voice networks
  • Isolates network problems and causes (jitter, delay, packet loss, packet sequencing)
  • Fine tunes networks for optimal voice and data performance
  • Single tool for converged networks
Key Features:

  • Sniffer® Voice Identifies Network Problems and Speeds ROI by:
    • Utilizing VoIP Experts
    • Interpreting more than 450 non-voice protocols to cut problem resolution time at all network layers on converged networks
    • Utilizing Voice-over-Network (VoN) decodes for common voice implementations
    • Examining every packet to gather real-time statistical data to help users spot potential problem areas
    • Displaying protocol distribution by Open Systems Interconnection (OSI) layers
    • Leveraging existing investment in network hardware and software
  • Sniffer® Voice Expert provides Expert analysis for the H.323, SCCP, SIP, H.225, H.245, RAS, RTP, and RTCP protocols. Expert analysis targets common problem areas, such as:
    • Jitter and packet loss
    • Out-of-sequence packets
    • Call duration
    • Command response time
  • Sniffer® Voice provides comprehensive decodes of the following VoIP protocols:
    • H.323, including: H.225 Call Signaling, H.245 Media Control, RAS, RTP, and RTCP
    • SIP
    • Cisco’s Skinny Client Control Protocol (SCCP) Sniffer® Voice also decodes more than 450 other protocols including:
    • TCP/IP, Frame Relay, ATM, HTTP, PPP, HCLC, MPLS OSI, X.25, X-Windows, IBM SNA, SUN NFS, Banyan Vines, Oracle SQL*Net, Sybase SQL Server, Microsoft SQL Server, and Windows NT Sniffer® Voice provides Expert protocol analysis at all seven OSI layers and isolates problems involving multiple layers. The Expert Sniffer® Voice provides Expert protocol analysis at all seven OSI layers and isolates problems involving multiple layers.
  • Data Display
    • Protocol decode: frame summary, detail, hex
    • Single channel/combined traffic
    • Multiple trace windows
  • Sniffer® Voice enhances the Expert analyzer with the following features:
    • New network objects at the Expert application and session layers for VoIP connections using H.323 (including H.225, H.245, RTP, RTCP, and RAS), SIP, and Cisco’s Skinny Client Control Protocol (SCCP)
    • During Expert analysis, Sniffer® Portable constructs a database of network objects from the traffic they see. The Expert protocol interpreters learn about network stations, routing nodes, subnetworks, and connections related to the frames in the capture buffer. This information is presented concisely in the Expert display.
    • New Expert symptoms and diagnoses specific to VoIP protocols
    • Using the information in its database of network objects, the Expert analyzer detects and alerts you to potential network problems, categorized as symptoms or diagnoses:
      • A symptom indicates that a threshold has been exceeded. It may indicate a problem on your network.
      • A diagnosis may be several symptoms analyzed together, high recurrence of specific symptoms, or single instances of particular network events that cause the Expert to conclude that a real network problem exists. A diagnosis should be investigated immediately.

System Requirements:
  • Sniffer® Voice must be installed over Sniffer® Portable (version 4.5 and higher).

NOTE: The target system for Sniffer® Voice must meet the system requirements for its base Sniffer® Portable installation. For example, if you are installing Sniffer® Voice over Sniffer® Portable version 4.5, the target machine must meet the system requirements for Sniffer® Portable version 4.5.
